Cotonificio Zambaiti Srl, a historic family business, an Italian excellence in textiles, which for over fifty years in Val Seriana, with tenacity and perseverance had chosen to maintain production exclusively in Italy for home textiles, today employing 58 workers, is laying down its arms.
“With regret,” says Dr. Angelo Zambaiti, the company’s administrator, “we announce the closure of our historic production facility, an example of Italian home textile manufacturing that was unique in Italy, with a completely verticalized production cycle that is no longer able to sustain an unequal war in an extremely negative economic situation.”
“The increase in the cost of raw materials and energy, as a consequence of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine without any possibility of passing on the higher costs to the sales price given the ongoing stagnation of the market, the growing pressure on sales prices due to increasingly aggressive imports with which even the real Italian manufacturing industry is confronted, the absence of regulations that seriously protect, without confusing the consumer, the real “made in Italy”, the continuous insolvencies of a clientele now struggling due to the continuous and constant drop in consumption, which have generated an unsustainable financial situation for the Cotonificio, the consequent increasingly limited and expensive availability of credit in a sector such as the underperforming textile sector” continues Dr. Zambaiti “have progressively eroded the competitiveness and economic-financial sustainability of the company with the consequent significant drop in turnover which in 2024 substantially halved compared to that of 2023.
In recent years, with tenacity and pride, we have resisted and believed in continuity, choosing to invest with conviction in technology, sustainability and digitalization, waiting for a decrease in energy costs and a change of direction in the market, which unfortunately we have not yet seen arrive.
It is a decision that deeply saddens me,” continues AU, “both for the family history and for all our employees and collaborators, who have dedicated themselves to the company with commitment and passion; our most sincere and profound thanks go to them and our commitment to do everything possible to best protect their interests using the tools deemed most suitable, which will be verified in advance with the union, also promoting paths of relocation to work at other companies in the times and ways that will be discussed, without prejudice of course – I repeat this purely for the sake of scruple even if it is in my opinion absolutely obvious – to the maximum effort for the full payment of their dues.
We have lived an intense entrepreneurial experience, the economic changes have not allowed us to continue as we would have liked. We are therefore moving towards a path of voluntary liquidation".
